Start on Your Phone

On a phone, ParrotPadMD runs as the Scratchpad, a web app you can add to your Home Screen. Dictate a note between rooms and paste it into any app, or record a visit and pick up the note later at your computer. There is nothing to download from an app store.

Get Started

  1. On your phone, open parrotpadmd.com and tap Try it on this phone.
  2. Sign up with Google, Microsoft or a sign-in link sent to your email.
  3. Choose your specialty. The Scratchpad opens, ready to dictate.

Signing up with an email link? Open the link on the same phone. It brings you back to the Scratchpad once you are signed in.

Add It to Your Home Screen

You can dictate right in the browser tab. Adding the Scratchpad to your Home Screen gives it an icon and opens it full screen, like any other app.

iPhone and iPad

In Safari, tap the Share button, then Add to Home Screen, then Add.

Android

In Chrome, open the menu (the three dots), then tap Install app or Add to Home screen.

Sign In Inside the App

On an iPhone, the app on your Home Screen keeps its own sign-in, separate from Safari, so it asks you to sign in once more. Any of these works.

  • Continue with Google or Continue with Microsoft, with the same account you signed up with.
  • A code from your computer. On a computer where you are signed in, open your account page and choose Show a sign-in code. In the app, scan the code or type it in. Each code works once and expires after 60 seconds.
  • A sign-in link. Send yourself a link from the app. If it opens in Safari instead of the app, copy the link from your email and paste it under Paste the sign-in link.

Dictate

Tap the microphone and speak. Your words appear as you talk, and the voice commands and macros work the same as in the extension. Tap the microphone again to stop, then tap Copy and paste the text into your EHR, an email or any other app.

Copy before you close the app. Dictation in the Scratchpad stays on this screen only and is never stored. Closing the app or reloading the page clears it.

On an iPhone, dictation needs iOS 18.4 or later. Recording a visit also works on earlier versions.

Record a Visit

Open the Encounters tab and tap Record Encounter. Confirm that you have the patient's consent, then set the phone on the desk between you and the patient.

Keep the screen on while you record. Locking the phone, taking a call or switching apps can pause the microphone. If that happens, the app keeps everything it captured up to that point.

When you stop, the transcript and any notes you generate are saved in your account. At your computer, open Encounters on parrotpadmd.com and they are there, ready to copy or to insert with the extension. Encounters & Notes explains templates and how notes are written.

Staying Signed In

While the Encounters tab is open, the app signs you out after 30 minutes without activity, because that tab shows your saved visits. The dictation screen holds nothing saved, so it does not time out while it is open.

At a computer, the Chrome extension dictates straight into your EHR at the cursor. On parrotpadmd.com on your phone, tap Send yourself the desktop link to email or message it to yourself. Open it on your computer and choose Add to Chrome.
